A Monthly Faith Gathering for
LGBTQ+ Folks and Allies at
First Christian Church, Georgetown
What is the Open Table?
Open Table is a monthly gathering for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies to come together for spiritual reflection, sacred conversation, and authentic community. It’s a space to explore faith, ask honest questions, and connect with others—all while being fully and unapologetically yourself.
Who is it for?
If you identify as LGBTQ+, if you’re an ally, if you’ve ever felt unsure whether there was space for you in church—this is for you. All are welcome, regardless of age, background, or where you are on your journey.
Are you officially affirming?
Yes. First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Georgetown is an officially open and affirming congregation. That means we don’t just welcome LGBTQ+ folks—we celebrate you. Your identity is not a barrier here; it’s a blessing.
When and where do you meet?
We meet monthly on Sundays from 1–3 PM at First Christian Church, Georgetown.
Location: The Chapel (Enter through the Clinton Street entrance)
Childcare is provided.
Do I have to be a Christian to attend?
Nope. We’re rooted in Christian faith and the radical welcome of Jesus, but you don’t have to identify as Christian to participate. We honor a variety of beliefs, backgrounds, and experiences.
What happens at a typical gathering?
Each month is a little different, but most gatherings include:
– A warm welcome and snacks
– A short spiritual reflection or teaching
– Open discussion and sacred conversation
– A time of prayer, blessing, or shared silence
Sometimes we include music, journaling, or guest speakers.
Is this a support group or a Bible study?
It’s a bit of both—and more. Open Table is a sacred space for connection, healing, and spiritual growth. We reflect on Scripture and spiritual themes in an affirming, non-dogmatic way.
Is it okay if I’m questioning my faith or identity?
Absolutely. This is a space where your questions are holy, your doubt is welcome, and your story matters. Whether you’re deconstructing, rebuilding, or somewhere in the middle, you belong here.
Do I need to RSVP or sign up?
No RSVP required—just show up. If you’d like to connect before coming, email Rev. Christy Messick HERE
Why is it called “Open Table”?
Because Jesus welcomed everyone to the table—no exceptions. We believe in that same radical hospitality. Open Table is a place where every story is sacred, every identity is honored, and every person is invited—just as they are.
