Week of Compassion is the relief, refugee, and development mission fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the US and Canada. This year’s theme is the same as last year: “More Than We Can Imagine” (Ephesians 3:20). It’s a message of hope, both to those in need and to those who have the opportunity and capacity to lend aid.
Our church has traditionally stretched February into an entire Month of Compassion. Look for inspirational quotes on the church Facebook page that may help center our thoughts on the mission of WoC. Those on Facebook can “like” Week of Compassion to learn more via your news feed. We will also provide Mission Moments during the invitation to offering throughout the month.
A prayer station, allowing us to reflect on acts of compassion and the efforts of Week of Compassion, will be set up in the hallway leading to the chapel, beginning on February 3rd. You will have the opportunity to put in writing thoughts you have after visiting the prayer station.
Our emphasis culminates with the annual Week of Compassion breakfast, to be held during the Sunday School hour, at 9:30 am, on February 24th. This year we will not have a speaker, but will engage in focused, small-group discussion on questions related to how we might increase our capacity for feeling and displaying compassion. A sign-up sheet for bringing items to the breakfast will be available in our gathering area starting on February 3rd.
Also on Sunday, February 24th, we will collect our special offering for WoC. We ask you to please consider giving generously to this program, which has a positive impact for so many hurting people in this world. You can also visit weekofcompassion.org for additional information.
